Update Apr 2026/May 2026

We have something very important to announce: on June 6th—first weekend of Pride Month, fittingly—we are releasing our angry trans anthem, “Throwin’ Bricks”, the release show being held at the Ghost Light Bar in Hamtramck. What’s so special about this is that we have decided to donate 100% of proceeds from single sales on Bandcamp for the first 24 hours post-release, as well as all merch sales and our cut of the door from that night, to the Transgender Law Center. We really wanted to make an impact with this song that goes beyond our humble little band and makes real, positive change in the lives of our trans siblings everywhere. The TLC is the largest national trans-led liberation movement and is an organization that is accomplishing a whole lot of good—from working towards racial justice, housing equality, and support for the disabled, to winning legal battles against the criminalization of trans lives through victories in the courts, policy advocacy, and by raising the profile of issues affecting our communities. You can find more information at transgenderlawcenter.org (and we strongly encourage you to consider donating or volunteering while you’re there). Joining us on June 6th are Slept Through the Blood Moon (who are also releasing a single!) and Toed. Mark your calendars and spread the word!

Now onto what we’ve been up to this past month. Each of us are in multiple musical projects, and our drummer Austin plays rhythm guitar in a goth rock band called the Sad Hour. This was a busy month for them, and we got to see them play on April 3rd at Ghost Light and the Arboretum on April 23rd.

Our guitarist, Mark, is a solo artist, and this month he was brought in to be part of the band for Emily Rose’s Ghost Night at Ghost Light; a monthly event where beloved Detroit songbird Emily Rose covers the material of a different deceased artist. For April, it was Woody Guthrie.

On April 10th we trucked on down to Ohio for the first time to play at Howard’s Club H in Bowling Green with the Kick It 6, with whom we first played back in December at the Blind Pig in Ann Arbor.

The following day, we got to play a very special show inside a cool little record store called the Wyrd Byrd in Ypsilanti with Claybanks, Mallory Wayt, and Confusion Reactor. Being such a small and intimate setting, wecould not use a full drum kit, so we had to improvie. Luckily, Austin is crafty and put together a “kit-less” kit, primarily using a cajon and a tambourine, and pulled it off fantastically. There’s so much more the Wyrd Byrd peddles other than records; weird, rare, vintage books, movies, and cds can be found lining the shelves, so we all left with some fun trinkets.

We went to the Corktown Music Festival at Flamingo Vintage and saw our friends Reckless Rhythms and the Bores—both of which we’ll be playing with at Mulligan’s Pub in Grand Rapids on Friday June 5th, by the way, spoiler alert.

“All shoplifters will be cheerfully beaten to a pulp”

Finally, we played a show at our favorite bowling alley, Bowlero, in Royal Oak, with Tyler Chernoff of Busby Death Chair fame on April 25th.

Next month’s shows are 5/2 at the Rex Theatre in Morenci; 5/8 at the Old Miami in Detroit; 5/15 at the Regal Beagle in Ypsilanti; and 5/16 at Collider in Chicago, IL.

Update Mar 2026/Apr 2026

Busy, busy, busy. Writing, performing, attending. We got front-row seats to the album release show of our friends Closed Circuit Cassettes, which is a band from Ypsilanti I would highly recommend if you like incredibly weird, fun electronic bands.

The three of us also got to sit in on Swamp Rats’ newest album and record some backup harmonies at Hamtramck Sound Studios (where, you may recall, we recorded our OWN upcoming single)! It’s gonna sound so good and we can’t wait to hear the finished product.

The crew of Izak, Swamp Rats, & a handful of extra friends at the recording studio.

It’s always so rewarding to travel somewhere we’ve never played before, to an audience that’s never heard of us, and be so well-received. That’s what we experienced on March 14th when we trucked on out to Grand Rapids for an abortive rights benefit show at the Fountain Street Church—where our own Mark Bolohan had his college graduation ceremony long ago. Funny how things work out. It was a beautiful cathedral and all of the bands and vendors were seriously awesome.

Then we played at yet another venue we’ve never played before, this time more local—Outer Limits Lounge—with Lyloc, Plughead, and Vampire Cowgirl. Surprisingly packed for a Wednesday!

Can’t get over these “trading cards” our friend Brie from Vampire Cowgirl made of us.

We ended the month by going to a queer square dance at a cafe called Vamonos! in Detroit, an all-inclusive potluck and dance party. It was a veritable parade of just the sweatiest, mullet-havin’, flamboyantly-dressed people you’ve ever seen. Vamonos has really cool, community-oriented events going on seemingly every day, so it’s one place we recommend checking out.

Next month’s shows are 4/10 at Howard’s Club H in Bowlig Green, OH; 4/11 at the Wyrd Byrd in Ypsilanti; and 4/25 at Bowlero in Royal Oak.

Update Feb 2026/Mar 2026

I was recently complimented on my songwriting output; I said, “Thanks! It’s the unemployment.” Anyway, we’ve been working hard and constantly adding new songs to our growing repertoire, with the odd show peppered into the mix. Did a last minute show on the 7th at Ghost Light with our friends in the Kaj Althaus Quartet as well as a Valentine’s Day show at Brewery Faisan with Swamp Rats, Monty Day, and a solo set by our very own Mark Bolohan.

Hey what time is it?

February 14th was an important one for us; it’s the one-year anniversary of the day the National Park Service website removed any and all mention of transgender people from their page for the historic Stonewall Inn, going so far as to remove the “T” from the LGBT acronym. It’s what inspired me to write our upcoming single “Throwing Bricks” in the first place. A whole year later, and us trans people are even worse off; as I type this, news of trans people across Kansas having their licenses invalidated en masse floods in. This was purposely done overnight before the changes went live so that no one could do anything about it. Without a valid driver’s license, one cannot drive to work, school, or even the DMV to have it fixed without the threat of being arrested. Certainly one can’t move to another state. They want us dead and gone; jail is horrific enough for cis-hetero people, but is a death sentence for most of US, where we will be tortured, forced to detransition, and goaded into suicide. Cisgender people, PLEASE listen to us when we tell you we are in danger. Please start caring about things that do not immediately or directly affect you, because if you think they’ll stop with us, if you think you’re safe…you are gravely mistaken.

Next month, we’ve got a benefit show for abortion rights at the Fountain Street Church in Grand Rapids on the 14th, and Outer Limits on the 25th.

Update Jan 2026/Feb 2026

As the southeast Michigan winter grows more unforgiving, we venture out of the house less and less; so of course, it’s been quiet. We’ve mostly been writing new material and getting things prepared for the single. We played an excellent show at Ziggy’s in Ypsilanti, but other than that there’s little to report.

Next month all we’ve got is Valentine’s Day at Brewery Faisan.

Update Dec 2025/Jan 2026

Well, well! It’s been quite the busy month! We played a beautiful wedding at the Belle Isle Conservatory in Detroit; for the procession, we switched up our instrumentation and I took up my violin while my partners played nylon- and steel-string acoustic guitar to the tune of “Merry Go Round of Life”, the main waltz from the movie Howl’s moving castle. Then we headed home through the blizzard to get to work practicing for our upcoming battery of shows—which I booked completely forgetting that not only are there TWO holidays this month, but along with all those shows, there are also practices that must be done in preparation for them.

In the foreground are several stands set up with sheet music on them; in the background, a beautiful, leafy conservatory. People mill about.

We played at Reware Vintage in Berkley, where we unveiled a new song; we also played at the historic Blind Pig in Ann Arbor for acoustic folk night. But by far the most exciting thing we’ve done this month was record a brand new single with Adam Cox at Hamtramck Sound Studios!

Finally, we wrapped up the year with a fun show at the Ghost Light Bar in Hamtramck with Matt C. Axe and the Swampgrass and a solo show by our own guitarist, Mark Bolohan. We are so grateful to everyone who braved the snow to come out and celebrate with us.

Next month’s shows are 1/11 at the Polka Dot in Hamtramck, and 1/17 at Ziggy’s Bar in Ypsilanti.

Update Nov/Dec 2025

Been a very quiet month over here for us; we’re usually less active in the colder months anyway, but especially so now with me having recently had to undergo spinal surgery. For those unaware, I have been fighting an uphill battle with chronic back pain for the past five years. This most recent procedure of mine implanted a spinal cord stimulator, which operates much like a TENS unit but for under the skin; the electrodes produce a frequency that essentially blocks the pain receptors in the affected area. Anyways, healing has been slow. But there is exciting news! Not only do we have some great shows coming up in December, but we’re ALSO recording another single! Please stay tuned for more updates. Next month we’ve got Reware Vintage in Berkley, The Blind Pig in Ann Arbor, and Ghost Light in Hamtramck.
